Nine times out of ten that's a safety sensor problem — the photo eyes near the floor are misaligned, dirty, or obstructed. It's an inexpensive fix and worth calling about before assuming the opener has failed.

Can I replace a garage door spring myself?

We'd strongly advise against it. Torsion springs hold an enormous amount of stored energy and releasing that without the correct winding bars causes serious injuries every year. This is the one garage door job worth handing to somebody with the right tools.
